Belong Together is a community dedicated to safe spaces, candid conversations and real relationships rooted in Christ.

Our cornerstone program for spiritual mentorship is Belong groups.

Belong group members are high school to college-age young adults who identify with having a refugee experience. We like to keep groups somewhat small -typically 6 to 14 people- to help create an environment that cultivates camaraderie and vulnerability. Groups meet monthly to discuss topics ranging from identity and actions, to values and decision-making. Regardless of the theme, each meeting incorporates Biblical scripture and looks at the life of Christ as the example for how God calls us to live and be love in our world.

Belong group leaders work from Belong curriculum for the first six months. From there, group members have the opportunity to plan and co-lead meetings alongside the group leaders on topics they feel relevant. While curriculum is prepared for meetings, we believe each meeting is ultimately led by God, and celebrate the topics He brings to the table (this is often when the most meaningful discussions happen!).

Each Belong group meeting begins and ends with prayer led by group members, and concludes with two action items, a “mission” and “commitment challenge,” as a way to personally and corporately live out the themes discussed.

In addition to monthly Belong group meetings, Belong leaders engage in one-on-one and small-group mentorship time with members. We believe safe spaces, candid conversations and real relationships happen when we do what Jesus calls us to: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind [and] love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 37-39)

After a full nine-month session of Belong group meetings, groups are encouraged to continue. But it doesn’t end there. They are also encouraged to partner in pairs to create a new Belong group, or start a new one-on-one Belong mentorship. This allows for the creations of another safe, Christ-centered and relational community or relationships for more young adults. The hope is that each Belong group grows beyond its original members and multiplies; because God’s extravagant love is contagious!

Additional programs of Belong Together include:

  • “English Champions” – small-group English language learning and conversation
  • “Love Actions” – Belong member-led service initiatives demonstrating God’s love to our neighbors (community members are encouraged to join Love Actions led by Belong members!)
  • Refugee mentorship and training support for businesses and organizations
  • Family-to-family connection for resettled refugees to neighbors in their new communities
